We’re Jim and Martin — two Christchurch-based advisers with decades of experience helping Kiwis prepare, plan, and enjoy fulfilling retirements

Our aim is simple: to give you confidence that you’re on the right path — knowing what you want out of retirement, and having a plan to make it happen.

As independent advisers, we have no ties or commissions to sway us. We only work for you — helping you make the right decisions and putting them into practice.

Jim Smith
FIA, CERA, CFA, FRM, SCR, CFP, FPFS
Director & Financial Adviser
(FSP762554)

Jim is one of New Zealand’s most qualified financial advisers. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Fellow of the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA), Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA), and a Fellow of the UK Personal Finance Society (FPFS). He also holds certifications in Financial Risk Management (FRM), ESG Investing, and Sustainability & Climate Risk (SCR).

He is the author of the investment books “Who Slurped My Equity Risk Premium?” and “Financial Pathways in Aotearoa”, and together with Martin Fox, the co-author of the retirement planning book “Retire Well”.

What Martin says about Jim:

Jim is level-headed and focused most of the time. But when you pull him away from his spreadsheets, he enjoys a hazy — and has even been spotted on the dancefloor at Fat Eddies.

He loves football, keeping fit and drinking numerous cups of tea a day. I’ve learnt that the quickest way to spark his grumpy Englishman side is with repeated unnecessary interruptions.

Martin Fox
Director & Financial Adviser
(FSP1004277)

Martin is a qualified financial adviser who specialises in retirement income planning. He helps clients navigate both the financial and lifestyle aspects of transitioning into retirement, ensuring they can enjoy the best years of their lives.

Before becoming an adviser, Martin had an 18-year career in aviation as an airline pilot and flight instructor — a background that helps him stay calm under pressure and focused on getting people safely where they want to go.

Together with Jim Smith, he is the co-author of the retirement Planning book “Retire Well”.

What Jim says about Martin:

Despite his many annoying tendencies, clients do seem to enjoy working with Martin and find him genuine, approachable and easy to get along with.

Martin takes great pride in getting his financial plans ‘looking sharp’ (which take him days to fine-tune), and despite not having any qualifications in marketing, he is famously particular about his fonts and colours.

Away from work Martin enjoys spending time with his family, as well as tramping, skiing and biking in the outdoors.
